INVERNESS - 1974 TRIP

LOCH NESS CIRCULAR TOUR

On Sunday, August 4, 1974, we planned a relaxing, leisurely bus tour (#13) around Loch Ness ... from Inverness to this view of Loch Ness ... and onwards to Dores and the Falls of Foyers. Vehicles, approaching each other on the narrow road, had to take turns to pass by.
Pat cringed a few times as we were treated to some cliff-hanging views. Along General Wade's Road we drove past one his bridges as we approached Whitebridge Inn.
The bus stopped at this look-out point at 2000-foot elevation. From this site, six lochs could be seen on a clear day. Judging from the line of cars, it might be a long wait for that clear day.
Och, but we were able to see at least one nearby loch from here.
Fort Augustus, at the western end of Loch Ness, is seen slightly left of centre in this photo. We stopped there for lunch, and visited the Fort Augustus Abbey ... where tourists could purchase tacky, expensive "religious" artifacts.
The bus stopped on a new bridge, which was constructed beside another of General Wade's bridges.
This was the wild river scene on the other side of the newer bridge.
Nature treated us to a rainbow over Loch Ness on our return to Inverness.
Urquhart Castle is a well-known scene near Lochend, Inverness. No "Nessie" was spotted on this tour.
