After some brief sight-seeing in Banff and Lake Louise, we made our way over the Great Divide along the Trans-Canada Highway

through the Kicking Horse Pass to Wapta Lodge across from Wapta Lake. The picture above shows the entrance (with the dining hall far left), the indoor swimming pool, and the separate cabins on the hill (to the right of the main lodge). After a good night's rest and a hearty breakfast at the lodge, we walked along the short trail to Lake Sherbrooke to the northwest.

The next place that we visited was the lookout at the Spiral Tunnels just down the road towards Field. [Viewers may click on the
Wapta Lodge map of the Kicking Horse Pass or return to the
map of Alberta to follow our trip on the eastern side of the Great Divide.]

We took a breakfast lunch to Emerald Lake and walked along the trail which circled it. When we revisited Field, BC, on the following day, I was hoping to give our family the experience of a scenic climb along a path to the top of Mount Steven, but it was closed . . . so we took a climb up the left section of Burgess Pass to the saddle between Mount Burgess and Mount Field overlooking Emerald Lake.
