KICKING HORSE TRAILS

Natural Bridge, Hoodoos, Beaver Dams & Barbecues

EMERALD LAKE ROAD
The road in the Yoho Valley leading to Takakkaw Falls was closed during part our stay but, eventually, we were able to enjoy the sight of Canada's third highest waterfall and a few others during our stay. EMERALD LAKE ROAD
There are many other trails to take in that 1310 square kilometres (507 square miles) of the Yoho National Park. As already noted, we took a short hike to Sherbrooke Lake along a trail beside Wapta Lodge. Also, a short drive of 3 kilometres to the Emerald Lake Road takes you to a picnic area by the river. Further along the road you will find the Natural Bridge, which the Kicking Horse River has carved through solid rock.
MOOSE & CALF
We returned to the entrance to this road on the day of our departure, because there were signs that moose were coming to a salt lick at the dip beside the road. We were not disappointed. [Viewers may click on the Wapta Lodge map of the Kicking Horse Pass.]

BEAVERS AT WORK
There were interesting trails on the southern side of the Trans-Canada Highway as well. We found a circular trail between the lodge and Field which had a beaver dam. On another day, we took a longer trail which included a steep climb to a lookout over a canyon of hoodoos.
