Reviving the Vic Strands
In 1953-4, we used an old Gestetner printer with waxed 8.5 X 14 stencils to produce issues of the
Vic Strands for the Coffee Shop. Others remember similar "Strands" from the past dating not long after the move from Cobourg to Toronto, the two historical locations of Old Vic along the Ontario shores. The federation of Victoria University with the U of T occurred in 1890. In another sense, the "strands" also referred to the collection of elements which made up the small weekly newsletter.
Today's professionally printed and "respectable" college newspaper is called
The Strand. Whereas only one of our issues in 1954 was titled "Stranded", we've observed a whole page labelled thusly in recent issues. Some traditions live on.
